It has been said that the only difference between a dream and reality is in the doing and no statement could better describe the GM Motorama Dream Cars build in the 1950s.

Harley Earl and is talented staff of design engineers kept intriguing Chevy fans with futuristic concepts. Many of which found their way into production, either in part or entirely such as this 1955 Chevrolet Biscayne Dream Car.

It was Earl's uncanny ability to gauge and determine new direction in automotive styling that sold cars for General Motors and Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet Biscayne was a series of automobile produced by Chevrolet for model years 1958 through 1972. Named after this show car displayed at the 1955 General Motors Motorama. The 1955 Biscayne was described by General Motors as "An Exploration In Elegance".

The Dream Car pictured here was a four passenger, pillar less four door hard top with suicide doors that later appeared on some 1957 and 1958 Cadillac's. Each front fender wore a gold anodized "V" logo to indicated a V-8 was under the hood. Side coves on the Biscayne's rear quarters appeared on the front fenders of the 1956 Corvette. As you can see very little trim was used except for a stylish Chevy script on the front door. Note the headlights later seen on the 1958 Austin Healy and the unusual vertical grille elements.

All the Dream Cars were hand build, this one out of fiberglass, to test future external designs. Many times the cars did not have an engine, interiors or working electrical systems.
